Treat Your Home Business Like A Video Game
Treat Your Home Business Like A Video Game
The other day it really struck me that a home business is just like a video game. The major difference of course is that video games won’t earn you any money, in fact these days they will cost you quite a bit.
What would happen to your Home Business if you treated it like a video game?
Let’s take a look at how similar your Home Business is to a Video Game.
Character Development
In most video games there is some form of character development. The main character will level, gain new abilities, become stronger, jump higher, etc. Your Home Business is no different. At the beginning of your Home Business, when you first get started, you have very few business skills. As you move forward, you may learn new things like how to prospect on Facebook, how to create a blog, how to give a presentation, etc.
You’re going through character development just like in the video game. As you progress further and further in your Home Business you learn more and more powerful skills that you can then use to help grow your Home Business and teach others how to do the same.
Character development in video games is one of the main concepts that make them so fun. It’s great watching your main character become more powerful. Think of yourself the same way. Take out a piece of paper today and write down what skills you have today that are helping your grow your Home Business, even if there are only a few. Refer to this list over the next year and write down any new skills you have learned. You’ll be amazed at how the list will grow in just a year’s time.
Home Business Vs. Video Game Challenges
How fun would a video game be if there were no challenges? Half of the fun is solving puzzles and beating bosses. Your Home Business is the same except for some reason we don’t want there to be any challenges. We want things to go smooth and easy in our Home Business. Well, if we don’t have challenges, we won’t actually grow our skills.
By stepping outside our comfort zone we learn new things. Just remember the last video game you played and when you got to a boss or had a challenging puzzle, how determined were you to beat that boss or find the answer to the puzzle? You were probably really determined, because the reward of beating the boss or solving the puzzle is very satisfying.
This led me to think, why do people often give up on their Home Business when they reach one of these challenges? Rather than buckle down and find an answer to the problem, people just start making excuses as to why they won’t succeed in their Home Business.
Home Business Vs. Video Game Consistent Effort
Some video games require a consistent effort to make progress. Take a game like World of Warcraft for example. A game that is played by millions and one of the main concepts in the game are quests. Many quests require you to go out and collect 10 items. When you accomplish this you receive a reward. To make it to the higher levels you may have to do a similar quest hundreds of times. Yet, millions of people have no problem with this at all. They will spend hours every single day grinding it out.
A Home Business is no different. What if your job was to go collect just 10 answers from people you talk to about your Home Business each day? If you do this every day, after a short period of time your business will be really growing. Yet, many people talk to the first 10, don’t get the answer they want and decide to quit.
Why can people grind it out for hours every day in a video game, but give up so easy on their Home Business? I believe the answer is because the video game will never reject them. The video game will never tell them no one will buy their product. The video game will never cause them to doubt themselves. The video game will never force them to grow and become a better person. The video game lets them forget about their issues. Therefore, the video game is purely just a waste of time. It will never make them any money, it will never improve their life or their situation and it will never help the lives of people around them.
The next time you face challenges in your Home Business, think of them as if you were playing a video game. Attack them the same way, with determination and consistent effort and your Home Business and you will both grow. If you do this consistently for the next year, you will be amazed where you’ll be at the end of the year both personally and in your Home Business.
