How to Write a Blog PostDo you know how to write a blog post? Did you find it easy or difficult? Even kids are creating blog posts these days so it should be pretty simple right? Well, not quite. Quite a few people know how to write a blog post, but many less actually write good blog posts.

I’ll admit I’m not the best blog post writer out there, but I have been doing it for a while now and I’d like to share with you some pointers that can really help you learn how to write a blog post that others will actually want to read and leave a comment on. So, let’s get started.

How to Write a Blog Post Pointer #1 – Blog Posts are Not Term Papers

Remember when you were back in school and you had to write all those term papers? Do you remember how boring they were? Well, if you write you blog anything like that, you’ll never have anyone read past the first few sentences.

One of the best ways to create a great blog post is to create a conversation with your post. Give the reader some really useful information and some pointers and write in a way so that you are talking directly to them and not at them. Throw in some questions to get them thinking about your post. This will encourage them to make a comment.

Would you like to have comments on your blog posts?

How to Write a Blog Post Pointer #2 – Keep a List of Topics

I actually keep a list of topics on my computer. One topic may be more appealing to me one day versus another. When you are out and about and you think of a great topic, write it down and a piece of paper and put it on your computer when you get home. This way you’ll always have a list to select from.

How to Write a Blog Post Pointer #3 – Picture a Reader

When you sit down to write a post, picture the person who will be reading your post. Get a mental image of their needs and what they are hoping to get out of your post. Write this information down on a piece of paper and keep it handy as you are writing your post. This will ensure your post will connect with your readers.

How to Write a Blog Post Pointer #4 – Create Interesting Post Titles

It many situations, your blog post title may be all your readers sees when they decide if they should read your post or not. Having a great blog post title can be the difference between your post being shared across thousands of Facebook pages or sitting in your archives as one of your great pieces of work that just never got noticed.

Also, be sure to include your keywords in your post title. This will help Search Engines know they should put your post in the search results.

Create post titles that either:

  • Communicate a benefit
  • Ask a question
  • Create controversy

These types of titles will draw your readers in. It will also help ensure they won’t just skip past your title on a search page or social media site and never even see your post.

How to Write a Blog Post Pointer #5 – Scan Able Content

Many of your reader’s lives are already full. Trying to sift through a huge post to find what they are looking for is going to totally discourage your reader and will probably result in them going to someone else’s post to get what they are looking for.

Use bullet points, headings and other methods to make certain points and sections in your post stand out. This way if your reader is looking for specific information, they will be able to find it quickly. They will be more likely to come back and visit your blog again when this happens. If one of your readers finds they constantly get great information from your blog, they will be more likely to tell someone they know about your blog. This can end up in one of your posts going viral.

Help a fellow blogger you know and share this post with them. Help them learn how to write a blog post that will draw in their readers and ensure their work will be admired by thousands of people.
