Would you like to know how to master Effective Communication? Would Effective Communication help you both in your personal life and in your business? I had the pleasure of listening to a My Lead System Pro (MLSP) call the other day where Paul Hutchings shared with us some ideas on how to communicate more effectively.

I thought his ideas where right on and I wanted to be able to share them with you today. You know, I would dare say that communicating effectively would help 98% of the world’s population. So, here are 4 Steps that will help you achieve Effective Communication in your not so distant future.

1 Garbage In – Garbage Out

We’ve all heard expressions like this before right? Here’s another one. You are what you eat. If you want to achieve Effective Communication than you need to pay attention to what is going in your brain. If you’re listening to trash radio shows all day long, what are the odds you’ll talk like a millionaire? Not very likely! Or maybe you’re listening to the Constant Negative News (CNN) all day long too.

If you want to talk effectively, you need to listen to things that will teach you effective communication. Personal Development programs, inspiring speakers, great national speakers, etc. The more you listen to people like these, the sooner you’ll start talking like them.

Not only is it what you watch and listen to, but it’s also what you read. There are so many great books out there on Personal Development. Pretty much anyone of them will start you down a path, that if you start down it, you will be amazed where you are 1 year from now.

This only does one part for you though. Listening/Reading the right things gives you Head Knowledge. It’s important to know what to say, but the next part is just as important.

2 Turn Your Effective Communication Head Knowledge Into Heart Knowledge

The great Zig Ziglar said the following quote “Sales in not a thing in the world but transference of a feeling”. You may be thinking sales, what does Effective Communication have to do with sales. You’ve probably never thought about this before but you have been in sales your whole life. You sold yourself to your parents anytime you wanted them do something for you when you were young. If you’re married, you sold yourself to your spouse when you first met. Otherwise, they would have moved on and found something different.

In order for your Head Knowledge to turn into Heart Knowledge, you need to start using what you are hearing. You will know you are communicating more effectively when people start actually feeling what you are saying and not just listening to you. In other words, your knowledge needs to come from your heart not your head.

3 Don’t Be Afraid Of Failing

Here’s what most people do. They understand they need to learn to listen to the right stuff, so they do. They start reading books that will help them rather than entertain them, they start listening to encouraging audios, but it stops there. You see, you’ll never turn your Head Knowledge into Heart Knowledge if you don’t use what you are learning.

Don’t be afraid of taking action. In order for you to grow, you need to take that next step and use your new knowledge when you talk to people. You are going to have times when you simply fail. Just realize it’s OK. You learn and grow from your experiences. Do you think some of the really great speakers out there today where just awesome when they started out? They had to learn and grow just like you.

4 Effective Communication Timing

As you use your new knowledge with others, you’ll notice that sometimes things don’t work just as you would expect. This is because you need to “Learn how to share the right thing, at the right time, in the right way.” What’s going to happen is you’re going to have all of this knowledge on how to achieve Effective Communication and you’re going to use it to talk to people more effectively. Some things are going to come out great and others you’ll start to see people are not ready for.

You will learn as you grow that you need to learn it’s not only how you say something but also when. As you are in a conversation with someone, you will start to sense when they will be ready for what you want to tell them. It may not even be until several conversations down the road.

Lastly, as you start achieving Effective Communication, people will start seeing you as a leader. But they won’t really care about what you have to say until they know how much you care. One of the biggest things you can do is to really listen to what someone else is telling you. Most people just wait for them to get done and them start saying what they want to and didn’t even hear what the other person said. When you use effective communication and really listen to what someone is telling you, you will notice all of your relationships, both personal and business, will grow into relationships you will have for the rest of your life.

Here’s to your future success!
