Cold Calling 101

Cold CallingAre you trying to grow your business by Cold Calling Leads? If so, has your sponsor given you any training on the best way to do it? Or have they just given you some names and told you to pound the phone?

I’ve been doing Cold Calling for a few years now and I will say you need to understand a few things in order to be successful at it. Lots of people look for the “Magic Script” for Cold Calling. Unfortunately, there is no real magic script.

Let’s take a look at what you really need to focus on to have success in Cold Calling.

Cold Calling Step 1 – Make A Friend

Many times when people first start Cold Calling think they need to sign people up on the first phone call. They feel pressured that if they don’t get them right then, they will never get them. This puts a lot of pressure on your when you are doing your Cold Calling and will affect how successful you are at it as well.

Your first goal when Cold Calling is to make a connection with the other person on the phone. Make them a friend. You do this by genuinely showing an interest in them and by actually listening to what they say. Many times people get a Cold Calling script and they are just trying to get answers to questions and they are not really listening to what the person has to say.

If you really show an interest in the other person and make them a friend, you are so much closer to having them buy a product from you or join your team already. People only buy products and join people they like and trust. So, if they don’t like you, you already have 1 strike against you.

As you are making a connection with them, relate to the things they say. If they live somewhere that you have a relative, let them know that. If they are from somewhere you’ve never been, ask them some questions about what it’s like where they live. This will really help them see you care about them and they are not just another name on a list.

Cold Calling 101 Step 2 – Find a Need

As you listen to what they are saying, your second goal is to find a need. You do this by asking some key questions. Here are a few questions I always ask that will really help you find their need.

  • What do you really dislike most about your job?
  • At this point in your life, what has changed to get you looking online for other ways to generate income from home?
  • If they had a home business before, you can ask them: Why do you think it didn’t work out for you?

By asking questions like these when you are Cold Calling, you can really pinpoint what their needs are. This will help you show them how you can help them.

Cold Calling 101 Step 3 – Introduce A Solution

If you have done everything correctly so far, when you introduce a solution to them, they will be eager to go take a look. They trust you because you made them a friend and showed some genuine interest in them. You asked key questions to really find out what they are looking for and what their needs are. So, when you introduce a solution they will be excited to see how it can help them improve their situation.

As you introduce a solution when you are Cold Calling, you want to reiterate their needs back to them and tell them how this solution will solve their issues. This does several things.

When you reiterate their needs back to them, it really shows them you were listening to what they had to say and you are not just after their wallet. It also helps them see in their own mind that what you have to offer could be a solution to their problems. If they can see your solution is the answer to their problems, you will have no problem bringing them on as a part of your team.
